Meet the God of Copy

August 4th, 2008 by Bob Bly

Is this guy, as he claims, the greatest living copywriter?

www.thecopygod.com

Read his web site and decide for yourself:

www.thecopygod.com

He certainly is good looking!

Is there a copywriting lesson we can learn from his site?

Is he truly a step above all other copywriters and marketing gurus out there today? Are we mere dust motes beneath the shining light of his copywriting genius?

I had to check my calendar…is it April Fool’s Day today??? No one could have that much ego and gall unless it was fake and someone was trying to make a point.

Who might want to make a point or two? How about Bob Bly!

This is a great way to build your e-mail list, Bob, because there are so many people that are looking for instant wealth without any requirement for work. Great idea!

    My favorite was this line…

“When I’m not catching waves, I’m tooling down the oceanfront roads in my new Dodge Viper – one of 417 cars I own”

Truth is, a clever copywriter could justify that claim. He’d need about $415 and a few grocery carts crammed full at the $1 store after raiding the toys section for Hot Wheels!

I wouldn’t be surprised if after signing up for the free gift, it read:

“You already got it! Just reading one of my pieces is worth $100; I’m that good!”

I liked his friend, Havi’s, site also!

hmmm…. saw what link it leads to …. is this a humorous lesson in believability? If so, it’s great! I was laughing the whole way through it.

    Bob,

I thought this was a parody . . . of all the “get rich writing copy” products on the market.

I thought this guy’s site was *very* well done.

As Dan Kennedy says, “Be the wizard but never believe the wizard.” Hehehehehe

I also thought this was a parody – and a pretty clever one at that, especially since this bloke has made it on Bob Bly’s blog! I laughed all the way through it. But then my art director pointed out that this God the Gorgeous Copywriter is an American. And that many Americans believe in some very strange things indeed. Like Creationism, that George Dubbya is a man of peace and that Paris Hilton and Britney Spears have an IQ of more than two figures. So perhaps he is, indeed serious. In which case, what a plonker!

The first few lines were so painful I actually had to skin to the end to make sure it was a parody. It’s an interesting way to make a point, for sure. The proof that it works is really that we’re all here talking about it.

And RonniC, I’ve lived in America for more than 30 years and have never met anyone who believes any of those things. Try meeting Americans before making assumptions.

I found it very disturbing and thought for sure my computer had been injected with a virus. Why else would a site like that exist? Wow, it was really painful to read. In fact, I couldn’t do it. I skimmed it.

Wow this guy’s stuff is GREAT!

And I know how he feels about being a “copywriting God”.

Ever since I’ve been a “marketing great” I know it’s not all it’s cut up to be.

My wife refuses to grovel at my feet, I get no respect at home.

And I keep waiting for checks to arrive addressed to “marketing great, Cairns” but so far they haven’t come.

At this rate I’ll never be able to buy that private island I got lined up right after I first got called a marketing great.

There is a very famous and successful Australian ad agency owner John Singleton who said you’ll be alright as long as you never believe your own bullshit.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

Strangely, after reading his webpage I just couldn’t help but send him a large check* because I’m sure I’ll be better at everything I do now.**

PS – I don’t know Copy God but I strongly endorse his efforts to change copywriting as we know it.

PPS – Send him your check within the next 24 hours and you too will be able to claim that you have reached out and touched the face of Copy God. A once in a lifetime thrill that your friends will envy!! Act now!!!!

First thing I noticed was “CTC Publishing” and “Filipino Webmaster” so immediately I discovered how great looking Bob Bly really is and that he’d been hiding his identity for a long time. Then I got thinking who’s that other guy scamming us on all of Bob Bly’s other pages?
