I had to check my calendar…is it April Fool’s Day today??? No one could have that much ego and gall unless it was fake and someone was trying to make a point.

This is a great way to build your e-mail list, Bob, because there are so many people that are looking for instant wealth without any requirement for work. Great idea!

My favorite was this line…
“When I’m not catching waves, I’m tooling down the oceanfront roads in my new Dodge Viper – one of 417 cars I own”
Truth is, a clever copywriter could justify that claim. He’d need about $415 and a few grocery carts crammed full at the $1 store after raiding the toys section for Hot Wheels!

I also thought this was a parody – and a pretty clever one at that, especially since this bloke has made it on Bob Bly’s blog! I laughed all the way through it. But then my art director pointed out that this God the Gorgeous Copywriter is an American. And that many Americans believe in some very strange things indeed. Like Creationism, that George Dubbya is a man of peace and that Paris Hilton and Britney Spears have an IQ of more than two figures. So perhaps he is, indeed serious. In which case, what a plonker!

The first few lines were so painful I actually had to skin to the end to make sure it was a parody. It’s an interesting way to make a point, for sure. The proof that it works is really that we’re all here talking about it.
And RonniC, I’ve lived in America for more than 30 years and have never met anyone who believes any of those things. Try meeting Americans before making assumptions.

I found it very disturbing and thought for sure my computer had been injected with a virus. Why else would a site like that exist? Wow, it was really painful to read. In fact, I couldn’t do it. I skimmed it.

Wow this guy’s stuff is GREAT!
And I know how he feels about being a “copywriting God”.
Ever since I’ve been a “marketing great” I know it’s not all it’s cut up to be.
My wife refuses to grovel at my feet, I get no respect at home.
And I keep waiting for checks to arrive addressed to “marketing great, Cairns” but so far they haven’t come.
At this rate I’ll never be able to buy that private island I got lined up right after I first got called a marketing great.
There is a very famous and successful Australian ad agency owner John Singleton who said you’ll be alright as long as you never believe your own bullshit.
