    I’m a major fan of “how-to” writing. It’s how I’ve made my living all these years. One tip I’d like to add to the list is that when you do write “how-to” articles, keep it simple and write to the level of a ten year old child. It works for me.

    I’m amazed at the lists of how-to topics that come to mind when I consider age gaps. What we were taught in high school, or somewhere along the line as a young adult isn’t being presented today or even on the minds of the ’20 somethings’.

    I know how to check a sportcoat for fit, yet meet young men that don’t have a clue. Stop a squeaky door? Take the hot bluing off chrome? There are no video games for that. Only a wide open how-to market.

    I bought this book and I love it!! I haven’t finished reading it, but it is definitely worth the cover price. I have an advantage as I have been writing non-fiction/marketing copy, etc. off and on for 24 years. I can’t wait to follow Bly’s advice. Need to go finish the book now.

    How-to’s are pretty much direct and they’re usually numbered or bullet-ed which is easy for users to read. I guess that’s why they sell so much. Plus, as a writer, it’s easy to structure your ideas when making how-to’s.
