Marketing Execs Love This Social Network

Lots of people think LinkedIn is the best site for corporate networking.
But according to a survey by the Creative Group, 56% of marketing and advertising executives named Facebook as their favorite social network, 21% picked LinkedIn, and only 4% named Twitter.
I don’t much care for any of them as I continue to find social networking a huge time suck and a thundering bore.

I agree with you Bob. In order to maintain a following, “likes” etc. I find myself having to change the format of our newsletter to be more photo based.
We are a newsletter for creative people and I even think the photo-based social media is over-whelming to keep up with.
At Facebook I find we compete with randoms that are obviously breaking dozens of copyright laws everyday by posting photos they do not own. AND they’re getting 1000’s of likes and followers for doing so.
One page I’ve found admits to being shut down four times by Facebook. Yet they’ve managed to get 25,000 followers once again. They offer no original content. It’s crazy. And a huge waste of time unless you’re posting photos. So the trick is, how to get amazing photos and tie that in with your content.
I’ve also found that my team can barely get a response using our Facebook fan page. If we post the same content on our personal pages, we get a huge response. Curious.
So now we are posting image-based articles on the weekends and submitting those to Facebook on our personal pages to elicit a response. It seems to be working and seems to trickle in more subscribers.
How these people get away with posting a bunch of other people’s photography and artwork without being sued is beyond me. You’d think eventually it would catch up with them.

I used to think social media was a complete waste of time, but then I saw people who are really good at it, and now I get why so many businesses are flocking towards it.
You’d be surprised what you can do with it.
That being said, I still can’t write a good tweet to save my life. And, focus is a priority in my life, so social media will likely never catch on with me personally.

I admit, I’m kind of mystified by Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites. I guess I’m just not a social person.
I have seen requests on business reader boards for people to “like” them on Facebook from a truck stop, a company selling refillable propane cylinders, several hairstylists and a dry cleaner. I’m not sure what any of them were getting out of the whole effort.
I do know one thing, though… If you’re going to ask me as a consumer to do something, you’d better tell me what I’m going to get in return. The only one promising the reader anything was the truck stop, which was offering a free pancake and eggs breakfast. The rest were just throwing out “Like us on Facebook!” on their sign facing the road. It seemed like such a waste. Yeah, I’ve never done business with your company but I’m going to take time out of my busy day to go online and like your business for nothing.
I can see a use for LinkedIn, though I probably don’t pay it as much attention as I should.

Nowhere on earth do they love Linkedin more than the Netherlands. Now, you might be thinking, what has that got to do with the price of edam cheese? Well it’s interesting for no other reason than to observe the general Dutch approach to doing international business (export). They happen to be some of the best exporters on the planet, and if you like exporting, Linkedin is a God send.

I think Linkedin is great for getting an idea of someone’s professional skills. But in terms of actually adding value somewhere? Not that I’ve seen.

I, Michael Irvin, believe that social networks such Facebook and Twitter are very useful if you are actually “famous” to the general public.
But, I do not think that most copywriters are famous to the general public. I believe that if I mention Bob Bly’s name to the average person, they will not recognize it.
But, Bob has made an enormous contribution among copywriters.

Well said Bob!. Social networks when started were limited only up to some social connections and activities. But since last 3 -4 years it has been used as a marketing platform.
However I can assure you that this is one of the best medium for advertisement and promotion. And the outcome is really fantastic due to the involvement of huge traffic.
